Fire Dragon by Walter Ruffler
Paper Animation by Walter Ruffler
The kite is skilfully be flown to and fro by the flyer, whose head moves side to side following the motion of the kite. The rotation of the crank is transfered on a friction wheel by two cams and transformed into the movement of the head, which is turning from the right to the left and back again. A crank slider makes the kite swing from side to side and up and down. The arms which are fixed to the kite by a string were raised and lowered by the movement of the kite.
Walter Ruffler, one of Europe's most accomplished automata designers, makes humorous and sophisticated mechanical paper kits. These paper "machines" use cranks, levers, wood sticks, and thread to simulate amazingly lifelike movement. |
